Librarian Liaison assignments updated

Librarian liaisons support teaching and learning at UWRF through personal interaction with faculty, staff, and students in their assigned departments. Librarians keep their constituencies up-to-date in regard to new resources and services, provide one-on-one consultations, offer to meet periodically with their departments, and facilitate library instructional sessions tailored to the specific needs of their departments. The librarian liaison program complements but does not replace our faculty library liaison program, in which a faculty member from each department is designated as his or her department’s liaison for collection development purposes.

Librarian liaisons for the 2014 academic year are:

New Staff Members

The Chalmer Davee Library would like to introduce two new staff members.

John Hanson joined the library staff in the Reference Department August 26th.  John grew up in Mississippi and first moved to the Midwest while serving in the Air Force stationed in South Dakota.  He received his BA and MLIS from Louisiana State University.  Before joining the staff he worked as a substitute librarian for Hennepin County Library System and as a reference librarian for the East Baton Rouge Parish Library System.  John moved to River Falls a few years ago to be with his partner, Dr. Paige Miller, who is a faculty member in the UWRF Sociology Department.  He was interested in this position because it gives him a chance to work in an academic environment where he can interact with other professional librarians in helping students utilize the Chalmer Davee Library’s resources.   John is filling in for Brad Gee, who is leading the Semester Abroad students in Europe during the fall semester.

Israel “Izzy” Quiles began in the Circulation Department as Daytime Coordinator on October 1st.  Izzy, who grew up in Milwaukee, attended UW-Milwaukee and worked at the UWM Bookstore before joining FedEx Office in 2004 and ending as a manager in 2013.  Izzy was drawn to the position because of the campus environment and a desire to settle in River Falls long term.  Izzy’s interests include drawing, movies, art and experiencing new coffeehouses and the flavors they offer.

Welcome John and Izzy!

Welcome Cate Sering!

Cate Sering rejoined our staff as a short term LTE in Circulation on June 7.  Cate is providing coverage and assistance in Circulation on a half-time basis as we move forward with filling open positions in the department on a permanent basis.  Cate has worked in our library as a student assistant and she also served as an LTE in the University Archives and Area Research Center.  Cate has recently received her MLS from UW-Milwaukee and also works at the River Falls Public Library.  Welcome Cate!

Staff Updates

Erin McDermott has accepted a new position with a Twin Cities technology firm.  Erin first worked in the Chalmer Davee Library as an intern in 2008.  Following her graduation from UWRF, she accepted a position in serials in early 2009, first as an LTE and then as a Library Services Assistant Advanced.  She moved to her most recent position in Circulation in 2011.

Jackie Throne has accepted a position as a Customer Service Rep at Uline in Hudson, WI.  Jackie began her employment at the library as a student worker in the Circulation Department in August, 2006.  She has also worked in Stacks Maintenance  and the University Archives.  Most recently Jackie served as Circulation Coordinator.

Welcome Tammy!

Tammy Stifter has accepted the permanent Library Services Assistant-Advanced position in Serials.  Tammy, who graduated Moorhead State University with a B.S. in instrumental Music Education and has been working as an LTE in the library for several months, officially begins her new position on January 28.

Tammy Stifter, originally from Williston, ND, has been married to Mike Stifter, of UWRF Facilities Management, for 20 years this July.  The couple has two daughters; Emily, 14 and Nan, 12, as well as a beagle/basset named Grace and a Lhasa apso named Teddy.

For past 12 years, Tammy stayed home with their girls and owned/operated a certified childcare out of her family’s home.  Tammy, a self-admitted library junkie, dabbles in knitting and is about to start her second semester as a graduate student in the UW Madison Part-Time Masters of Social Work program.  Welcome to the library staff, Tammy!

Helen Spasojevich Elected to Classified Staff Advisory Council

Helen Spasojevich, who has worked in the Chalmer Davee Library since 1989, currently in the cataloging department, was elected to the newly formed Classified Staff Advisory Council (CSAC) earlier this summer.

CSAC promotes ongoing education, professional development activities and communication between classified employees and the broader University community.  The Council members serve as advisers to the Chancellor and other University administrators when decisions are being made that affect our campus.  CSAC also provides a forum for all classified staff employees and for interactions with members of the University community, including faculty, staff, and students.

Congratulations Helen!
