April 27—May 3 is national Preservation Week.
During Preservation Week libraries all over the country present events, activities, and resources that highlight what we can do, individually and together, to preserve our personal and shared collections.
During that week, MayDay (May 1st) is set aside to encourage emergency preparedness. As natural disasters of recent years have taught us, many resources are in jeopardy should a disaster strike. Personal, family, and community collections are equally at risk. Do you know what you would do during an emergency? What would you do if your old family photographs got wet? Learn more online about preserving your family treasures and what to do when disaster strikes. If you’re a teacher-in-training, there is also a page on preservation projects for kids.
