October is Wisconsin Archives Month

Archives Month is an annual celebration of the value of Wisconsin’s historical records, the original documents that tell the stories of our families, communities, business and civic organizations, and government institutions.

This year’s theme, “Forward Through the Past: 100 Years of the Wisconsin Idea,” celebrates the Area Research Center (ARC) Network as a thriving example of the Wisconsin Idea. The Wisconsin Historical Society and the University of Wisconsin System cooperate in a network of ARCs located at UW campus libraries throughout the state and at the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center. Each Area Research Center serves a specific geographic region. Records created in and focused on the region served by a particular ARC are housed permanently at the appropriate Center. The Society maintains a courier service which allows members of the network to borrow collections housed elsewhere for use by their local patrons.

An exhibit of selected archival materials is now open in the lower level of the library to commemorate Archives Month.  An open house will be held later this month.  Look for announcements here and in Falcon Daily.
