Looking for deep space quiet to do your finals’ preparation? The University Archives is offering quiet study space to students, Tuesday-Friday, May 14-17, from 10-4:30pm. No food or drink allowed.

Finals Week Stress Relief!

The Chalmer Davee Library has added therapy dogs to its list of stress-busting finals week activities once again this semester. Partnering with C.A.R.E., the Companion Animal Respect and Education Club, certified therapy dogs will be on hand on the library’s main level in the Cooklock Room (straight through the main gates at the end of the hallway) from 5-8 pm, May 13-15.

Free coffee, tea and hot cocoa will be available Sunday evening, May 12th, through Wednesday, May 17 (or until supplies run out). Refreshments will be located in the Microfilm Rm. on the main level (near the photocopy room).

Library Book Club Changing Focus

The Davee Library’s Lion’s Paw Book Club began in January 1998 as a collaborative effort serving members of the UWRF and greater community who enjoy reflective reading and discussing contemporary issues. The library is changing the focus of this reading group to align our efforts with the campus-wide “Year of” strategic initiative. Beginning this fall, the International Programs Committee will choose one country per academic year as a focal point for a variety of campus events. The new book discussion series will feature books related to the chosen country and 2013-2014 kicks off with the Year of Germany. Selections can be fiction or non-fiction, classic or contemporary, and can focus on Germany or be written by a German author. Anyone interested in leading a book discussion should email cate.dodson@uwrf.edu. The library will select six titles representing a variety of genres, time periods, disciplines etc., and will schedule the discussions monthly in September, October, November, February, March and April next academic year.

It’s National Library Week! Take a few minutes and browse through a new resource that was unveiled today, the Digital Public Library of America. This fascinating resource brings together digital materials, including books, images, texts, historic records, and audiovisual materials from 40 organizations around the country, including libraries, museums, and cultural institutions. It’s fabulous!
